Dr. Andre Droxler

Dr. André W. Droxler received his Master’s degree equivalent in 1978 from University of Neuchâtel (Switzerland) and pursued his Ph.D. at RSMAS (Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science) University of Miami (Florida) where he graduated in 1984. He was a postdoctoral research scientist at University of South Carolina in Columbia from 1985-1986. Since 1987, he has been a faculty member at Rice University. He is currently a Professor in the Earth Science Department and since 2007 the Executive Director of the Rice Center for the Study of Environment and Society. His research has focused on studying the morphology of and the sediments accumulating on slopes and basin floor surrounding coral reefs and carbonate platforms. In the past 30 years, he has conducted research programs in the Bahamas, offshore Jamaica, along the Belize margin, in the western Gulf of Mexico, in the Maldives (Indian Ocean), along the Australian Great Barrier Reef, and the Gulf of Papua (Papua New Guinea). The main focuses of his research include the regional and global evolution of coral reefs, paleo oceanographic/ climatic records, past sea level fluctuations archived in sediments deposited around reefs and carbonate platforms. His research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the American Chemical Society, and numerous grants from oil and gas companies. André W. Droxler has published more than 100 scientific publications and has edited two books, including “Earth’s Climate and Orbital Eccentricity: The Marine Isotope Stage 11 Question”. Dr. Droxler joined the Green Team America Executive Board in 2009.
